An introduction to Tapping & how to get started

Here's a quick introduction to using EFT Tapping. If you're familiar with the Tapping episodes on our podcast or you already have our EFT for Anxiety Relief Course, you can skip this audio but if you're new to the idea of Tapping, this brief audio guide will help you get started.

Tapping has been developed as natural healing technique combining the acupressure points of Chinese Medicine with modern psychology.

Chinese Medicine teaches that blockages in the meridian energy channels affect both our physical and emotional health. Tapping specific meridian points while focusing on emotions or sensations in the body can help release those blockages and calm the mind and nervous system.

EFT Tapping uses a set sequence of acupuncture points. Each point is an acupuncture point known to help calm emotional disturbance. For example: in Chinese Medicine the collarbone point is called Kidney 27 and is used for opening and relaxing the chest and treating asthma and adrenal exhaustion. This point is known to reduce fear and panic and can be held or tapped for relief in stressful situations.

(In our EFT for Anxiety Relief Course we mention the finger points and do not include the Top of Head Point, in this course we are presenting the shortened sequence that omits the finger points - both sequences work equally well.)

  • The starting point is nicknamed the “karate chop” point because of where it's situated on the outside edge of your hand. This point is found half-way between the base of your little finger and the beginning of your wrist, you can tap on the point with your fingertips and thumb bunched together.
  • Extra Point: Top of Head In Ayurveda this point is known as adhipati which means the Lord of all. It’s a very significant energy point for healing the body, calming the mind, feeling more present and safe, and it's found right in the middle of the top of the head. To locate the point, put your thumbs on the top of your ears and let your middle fingers meet on the top of your head in the centre.
  • Eye Brow - at the beginning of the eyebrow, just above and to one side of the nose.
  • Side of the Eye - on the bone bordering the outside corner of the eye.
  • Under Eye - on the bone under the eye about one inch below and in line with the pupil.
  • Under Nose - in the centre of the area between the nose and top lip.
  • Chin - in the centre between the bottom lip and bottom (or point) of the chin.
  • Collarbone - the junction where the collarbone, sternum (breastbone) and first rib meet.
  • Under the Arm - on the side of the body approx. 4 inches below the armpit.
